Breast Augmentation

Augmented to a full "C" cup, this women's
breasts are now proportional to her body and enhance her figure.
Patient
Assessment
Breasts that are small. |
Lack of normal proportion with
chest size and overall physique. |
Breasts that have lost volume
after childbearing. |
Some women benefit from a combination of
both augmentation and uplift (discussed under Breast Uplift) which
can greatly enhance their silhouette. |
| |
Procedure
Incisions can be made in one of three places:
an infra-mammary incision hidden below the breast, an axillary incision
through the armpit, or a periareolar incision
around the lower border of the areola. (the pigmented area around the nipple) |
Surgeon creates a pocket either
directly behind the breast tissue or underneath the chest wall muscle.
A breast implant is inserted, filled to the desired volume with
sterile saline solution, and the incision is closed. |
| |
Recovery
Patient goes home with a light
dressing and support bra. A soft brassiere is worn for a few weeks. |
There will be some post-operative pain
for a few days but it is easily controlled by medication. |
Light activities may be resumed in a week
to 10 days, more vigorous activities in two to four weeks. |
| |
Intended
Result
Fully shaped breast of the desired size.

| Breast Lift/Mastopexy |
A breast lift with implants reduced the sagging
and restored volume.
Patient
Assessment
Sagging, loose breasts. |
Breasts that have lost volume
and elasticity after childbearing. |
| |
Procedure
Donut Mastopexy Commonly named the "Benelli
Technique", it is used in women with mild to moderate breast
sagging (ptosis) because the nipple does not need to move very far.
A simple incision is made around the areola (nipple-complex), leaving
a scar which fades into this natural line. Women with significant
breast ptosis may need a standard breast lift, which involves more
incisions. |
Excessive skin is removed and
the breast is fitted to a more natural position. |
Some patients may benefit from placement
of an implant (Described under Breast Augmentation) to improve breast
size and shape. |
| |
Recovery
Patient goes home with a light
dressing and a support bra. |
There will be some minimal post-operative
pain for a few days but it is easily controlled by medication. |
| |
Intended Result
Elevated youthful breast contour with nipple/areola
complex in proportion to new breast size. |

Frequently
Asked Questions
Q.
I'm only
in my late 30s but I'm interested in having my breasts lifted. I like
my B-cup size but I want to have my natural sagging reduced. Is it
possible to do this small breast lift with minimal scars? |
A.
You'll be happy to know that
there is a surgical approach which leaves little appearance of a scar
because the incision is placed at the edge of the areola. It's called
a donut mastopexy. The incision is made at the junction between the
nipple's edge and the regular breast skin. The scar then blends into
this natural line. The appropriate candidates are smaller-breasted
women with average sagging, such as yourself. In some cases, a breast
implant can provide increased fullness not achievable with just a
breast uplift. To better understand if you might be a candidate and
to view before and after photos, contact our office for a complimentary
consultation. |

Q.
With
breast augmentation, do you fill the implants all at once or a little
at a time? How do you get the right size? |
A.
The decision process starts
during the initial consultation, when the patient and I discuss how
she wants to look and what size she wants to be. Accurate measurements
of the breasts are taken. Results that appear the most natural are
achieved when the implant chosen is in proportion with the existing
contours of the body. During the surgery, implants are inserted and
filled with saline solution (sterile salt water) to the selected size,
adjusting the size by adding more volume to one side or the other.
I have many years of experience with understanding what my patients
are asking for and helping them achieve it.. |

Q.
Your breast
augmentation results in your slides look very natural. Do you use
different shaped implants? |
A.
There are many variations
of implants: teardrop (anatomical), round, textured and smooth. The
choice depends upon the body type, the breast shape and the patient's
preference. Understanding the options and the results from different
choices has enabled me to do natural looking breast augmentations. |

Q.
I recently
lost a lot of weight. I think I look great except for my breasts.
I lost a lot of weight there, too, and now they're too small and they
really sag. I want my cleavage back. What can you do for me?
A.
A combination of a breast lift
and enhancement may be best for you. A breast lift can remove excess
skin that is left over after your weight loss and an implant will
replace some of your lost volume. A consultation will help you determine
which procedures can help you achieve the results you desire. |
