Eyelid Lift

Blepharoplasty
Fat and skin were removed from both the upper and
lower eyelids with a four-lid blepharoplasty.

A double eyelid or "fold" was created
for both of these Asian women.
| The very first signs of aging are treated
with an eyelid lift (both upper and lower lids) and laser resurfacing
of the upper lip and lower eyelids. |
| |
Patient
Assessment
Excess, baggy eyelid skin that, in severe
cases, may even interfere with vision. |
Bags and/or dark shadows under the eyes,
frequently caused by excess skin or fat in the lower eyelid. |
Sometimes a browlift is indicated
and performed at the same time. |
| |
Procedure
Incisions are made where the natural crease
exists in the upper lid and below or behind the eyelash line in the
lower lid. Excess fat and/or skin are removed and, if needed, the
muscles are tightened. |
The procedure normally takes only one to one and a half hours for upper
and lower eyelids . Frequently it is done in conjunction with a facelift
or endoscopic browlift. |
| |
Recovery
There will be minimal post-operative discomfort
that is easily controlled with medication. |
Swelling and bruising subside rapidly over
a week to ten days. |
| |
Intended
Result
A fresher, more rested appearance. |
Eyelids no longer interfere with vision.

Asked Questions

Q.
I have little scowl
lines between my eyes. They make me look angry. I try to cover them
with my bangs but often they get brushed aside and I look angry again!
Worse yet, I look positively ominous when I scowl. How can I get rid
of with these furrowed lines . . . permanently? |
A.
You should have a consultation with a Board
Certified Plastic Surgeon so that the depth and cause of the lines
can be evaluated. Deeper furrows, such as you describe, may best be
treated with a browlift for a permanent reduction of the lines. A
browlift lifts and smoothes the forehead, reducing deep furrows and
helping to eliminate brows that hang over the upper eye. A temporal
browlift uses incisions that are made in the hairline above the ears.
A newer procedure uses an endoscope for browlifts. Endoscopic browlift
surgery requires only three to four small incisions and results in
less scarring. |

Q.
I'm in my 40's and,
although I still feel young, my face has aged dramatically the past
few years. I have puffy bags under my eyes that make me look exhausted
all of the time. I have deep frown furrows in my forehead, and what
used to be cute lines around my eyes when I smiled are now full-fledged
crow's feet. I'm tired of looking tired. Can you help me? |

It sounds like you could benefit from a
combination of procedures, including eyelid surgery, a browlift and
laser resurfacing. Bags and dark shadows under the eyes as well as
droopy lids over the eyes are often caused by excess skin or fat in
the eyelid. Eyelid surgery removes that extra skin and fat at the
fold of the upper lid and just below the lower lash line. A browlift
lifts and smoothes the forehead, reducing deep furrows and helping
to eliminate brows that hang over the upper eye. A temporal browlift
uses incisions that are made in the hairline above the ears. A newer
procedure uses an endoscope for browlifts. Endoscopic browlift surgery
requires only three to four small incisions and results in less scarring.
Crow's feet can be treated with CO2 laser resurfacing.
The CO2 laser gently removes the damaged surface
layer of cells on the face, smoothing wrinkles around the eyes. |
